Some young people leaving the care of Happy House children’s home have relatives who are able to offer them a home once they become more self‑sufficient, others do not.
And, as in any family, you don’t make your children leave home without somewhere safe to go.
Our Halfway Houses are designed to support these young adults as they adjust to independence while completing their education or vocational training.
Our first bungalow, Hatch House, is already working successfully for the older boys who live there. We were fortunate that Hatch House was funded through a wonderful donation from the late Betty Hatch.
The second bungalow is now nearing completion and is being generously financed by fundraisers from the Netherlands.
As well as having accommodation for six girls at ground level, it will have a second storey which will give self-contained space for a caretaker, if required,
A third house is planned, as Papa Dave mentions, with more than half of the £16,000 needed already raised by a group of young men who successfully climbed Mont Blanc.
Fundraising is ongoing for the remainder. Papa is also building a modest bungalow on the site for himself, which he intends to move into once he has sold his current house, which is now larger than he needs.
But to finish the third Halfway House — and ensure that no young person in our care is left without a home—we urgently need support.
Your gift will help create a safe place for vulnerable young people who have no family to return to. A place where they can continue to grow, learn, and step into adulthood with dignity and hope. Will you help us build that future?
