Lesley finds his talent for art

At Happy House, every child brings a unique spark that adds to the heart of the community.

For Lesley, that spark comes alive in his curiosity, his kindness, and the creative spirit that colours everything he does.

When he isn’t at school, playing games with his friends, or lending a helping hand around the house, you’ll almost always find Lesley with a pencil or a paintbrush in hand.

Art is his favourite hobby his sanctuary, his joy, and, he hopes, one day his future. Whether he’s sketching people, animals, or whatever his imagination conjures up, drawing gives Lesley a way to express the feelings and dreams that don’t always come out in words.

His teachers and carers often marvel at the detail he pours into his work and the quiet concentration he brings to each piece. For him, art isn’t just a pastime—it’s a path he longs to explore further.

Mama Sue, our founder, always believed deeply in the power of opportunity. During her own long journey to fulfil her dream of opening a children’s home, she often shared a truth that still guides us today: “Education is the only road out of poverty. If a child doesn’t have the chance to pick up a pencil or a paintbrush, how can they know they are an artist?”

Lesley is living proof of that belief. Because he was given the opportunity to try, to explore, and to discover, he found something that lights up his world.

And with that spark comes possibility—the possibility of a future shaped by creativity, confidence, and hope.
