On the threshold of a new beginning

Painfully shy, withdrawn and in a terrible physical state, John was a sad child when he came into our care in 2010.His elder brother and younger sister were also pitiful and poorly little people.

Slowly, with love , nourishment and nurture, they began to to blossom.

Our UK co-ordinator, Elizabeth Gomm writes:”I remember vividly the first day I saw John smile, really smile.

“”‘d gone with our social worker at the time to take John to see a local doctor and we were waiting outside the clinic.

“There was a tree growing there, with branches beckoning to be climbed and John, for all his timidity, couldn’t resist. He clambered up and peered at me through the leaves with the broadest smile.

“It’s years ago now, but a day I will never forget.

“The day I knew that John was enjoying life and being just like any other little boy who wants to have a bit of mischievious fun.”

John has always been a clever boy, enjoying school, and making the most of his education.

So it is wonderful to see that he is now on the threshold of something new, taking up his place at university this month.

That John will work hard is not in doubt. He will take advantage of every opportunity offered to him.

He is another Happy House success story, a life transformed by our inspirational, Mama Sue, who founded our charity and has the determination to make her vision of setting up a home for needy children in Kenya become a reality.

If she were still alive, Sue would be so proud of this young man just as we all are.

It is thanks to those people who support us, who sponsor our children, that we are able to do this.

Our aim is for each child who comes to us grow up with a happy, secure, childhood and to be equipped with the skills to go on to support themselves and to break free of the cycle of poverty they were born into.

We wish John every success as steps over the threshold of his university campus.
