Tall order for peak performers

Friends Ben Heavers and Rees Flynn are aiming high to raise money for for Children of Watamu’s Happy House.

In just a few days time they will setting off on a journey which will take them 4806m up to the summit of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Western Europe.

Along with a few friends they hope to complete the climb in three days, but guides allow an extra day in case of bad weather.

Ben and Rees, who both sponsor children at Happy House, will be away for a week as they will be training on Gran Paradiso, also over 4000m for the first few days to acclimatise.

After putting in months of tough training, they will be pushing themselves mentally and physically to reach their goal.

They are also driving their fundraising to help add another bungalow on our Halfway House site, to give temporary housing to young people who have been in our care at Happy House when they reach 18 but have no means of supporting themselves.

They may still be in education or vocational training and do not have family members to give them a home.

Ben who with his partner, Grace Dunbar, sponsors two little boys Victor and Stephen said: ‘Last year, we had the privilege of visiting them and seeing first hand the love, care, and opportunities this charity provides.

One of the biggest challenges these children face is what happens when they turn 18. That’s why I am raising funds to help build a much-needed halfway house, giving these young adults a stepping stone to independence.”

Rees said: “Michelle and I sponsor a little boy, called Peter, who lives at the Happy House.

“Since opening 15 years ago, Happy House has added a kindergarten, primary and junior secondary school, which also educate kids from the local community.

“Happy House depends entirely on its child sponsorship scheme along with donations and fundraising.”

You can give these two amazing young men a lift to help them get to the top by supporting their fundraising via JustGiving.
