We love welcoming visitors from around the world to Happy House. Whether you’re visiting Watamu for a few days or joining us as a volunteer, you’ll have the chance to experience everyday family life and meet the people who make Happy House home.
We ask you to arrange a visit in advance to make sure it fits around the children’s routines and daily life at Happy House.
Visiting hours
Monday to Friday: 10am to 12.30pm, and 2pm to 4.30pm
Saturday: 9am to 1pm
Saturday late morning is a lovely time to come. That's when we hold Kids Club: the whole family gets together to look back on the week, celebrate what the children have achieved, and sing and dance.

Whether you’re on holiday in Watamu, already sponsor one of our children, or simply want to learn more about Happy House, we’d love to welcome you. Meet our family and see what we do. And if you have a little one of your own, feel free to bring them along.
Arrange a visitBecome part of everyday life at Happy House by sharing your time and skills. Building friendships and trust with the children takes time, so we ask volunteers to stay for at least one month.
Volunteer guidePlanning a visit? Please take a moment to read our visitor guidelines before you come.

We welcome volunteers who can share their skills, experience and enthusiasm with our Happy House family. Whether you’re helping with education, creative activities, sports or other projects, there are lots of ways to get involved.
As a volunteer, you’ll become part of the Happy House family, working alongside our Kenyan team of aunties, uncles and teachers. The children’s safety and wellbeing always come first, so all volunteers follow our safeguarding policies and complete the necessary recruitment checks.
When you apply, tell us about your skills and interests, and we’ll plan a timetable together. Volunteers usually join us from 9am to 3pm, Monday to Saturday.
Volunteering at Happy House is unpaid. Volunteers cover their own travel and accommodation costs, but we're happy to recommend places to stay in Watamu and help you plan your visit.
Giving your time is a gift in itself. If you’d like to do more:
Sponsor a child: Sponsorship covers the cost of a child’s care, and gives them the security of knowing a sponsor family is behind them.
Bringing gifts or donations: Please get in touch before you travel, and we’ll tell you what the children need most at the moment. So that everything is shared fairly, gifts are received by our Director or Administrator and shared with the whole family. You can also give through our donation page.
Thank you for your interest in Happy House. We look forward to welcoming you to Watamu.
