We love sharing the stories of daily life with our supporters through our blog and we hope you enjoy reading all about life at the Happy House.
From school achievements to activities at home, these moments help show what life is really like for the children growing up here and how your support enables us to provide the love and support for your family here in Watamu.
Recently, four of the children, Harry, Zawadi, Daudi and Esther, were selected to become our in-house blog reporters.
Their role is to help capture and share some of the stories from Happy House, giving everyone a glimpse into the everyday moments that make this home so special and giving a helping hand to Aunty Libby and Evans.
To help them get started, the team has been gifted a camera so they can take photos and record videos as they work on their stories.
But becoming a reporter is not just about picking up a camera. The children are learning the full process of storytelling.
They begin by writing their ideas in their notebooks, thinking about interesting things happening around the home that others might enjoy reading about. Once they have a list of ideas, Evans sits with them to review the plans, helping them think about what would make a strong and interesting story. When the ideas are approved, the reporters head off to capture their content.
Through this process the children are learning many valuable skills – planning stories, thinking creatively, asking questions, and understanding what makes a story engaging for readers. So keep an eye on the blog. With our new young reporting team, you may soon be seeing more home-grown stories created by the children themselves.
