Corn crop outgrows Victor

Maize is a staple crop in Kenya and when the the rainy season approaches you will see people planting their seeds on every spare patch of soil.

The corn is used to make flour which is the chief ingredient of ugali, a food eaten in pretty much every home.

At Happy House, the children sow the seeds and tend them as they grow – watering and weeding on a regular basis.

It’s doing really well, and much to Victor’s amusement, it is now taller than him!

When the cobs are ready, the children will bring in their harvest and take it to the kitchen where it will be cooked and served up as corn on the cob, which the children love.
