Teacher David recently travelled from Cumbria in the UK to Kenya, accompanying the students from Energy Coast UTC, along with his own daughter, for their volunteering visit to the Happy House.
David was fundamental in making the visit possible, helping to give the students an opportunity to volunteer, use their skills and make a real difference to our home.
Reflecting on his time in Kenya, one of the things that stood out most to David was just how welcome he felt. From the children and staff at the Happy House to the people they met throughout Watamu, the warmth and kindness shown to the group made a lasting impression.
The weeks were about much more than the work completed. David saw the students build friendships with our children, experience a different culture and return home with memories and experiences that will stay with them for many years.
We are incredibly grateful to David for everything he did to make the visit happen and hope this is just the beginning of a lasting friendship with our family.
