DawnHeather White, a trustee of our charity and a familiar face at Happy House, recently promised our children something very special: photographs of their very own.
Our children appear in many photos taken by visitors, volunteers and for our blog, but they don’t often get the chance to see those images themselves, let alone keep them.
So during this visit, DawnHeather told the children she would take individual photographs of each of them and make sure they received copies to treasure.
After completing the essential work she had come to do, writing the trustees’ annual report for the Charity Commission, DawnHeather, affectionately known to the children as Auntie Dawn, organised a full photo shoot.
Each child chose what to wear and selected the backdrop for their pictures, expressing their personalities and creativity.
Little did she realise just how big a task she had taken on. From one location to another she went, with many children choosing to be photographed alongside artwork they had created themselves, or in front of the portrait gallery produced by recent volunteer, Sabrina.
Auntie Dawn has known all of the children throughout their lives at Happy House and has had the joy of watching them grow and their personalities develop
. Each child has their own individual style, proudly reflected in their photographs. Our teens, now young adults, are just as image‑conscious as their peers around the world, and this meant even higher expectations and greater demands on the photographer.
As DawnHeather tells us, it was a joyful challenge and one that will be well worth the effort when she sees the smiles, confidence and pride on the children’s faces when they realise these pictures will be truly theirs.
