Roof goes on and we’re home and dry

The rains held off from their worst and we are delighted to report that the roof on the building, described as at the social hub, is now completed at Happy House.

Papa Dave is delighted that the old thatched Makuti roof, which had become irreparable is now gone and a brand new metal roof, with a much longer life span, is on in its place.

The building houses a room for our social worker, Auntie Elina, where she can meet and mentor children in private; a sewing room for our seamstress, Auntie Eunice, who makes school uniform and makes and mends any textiles used in our home, and largest room,  a family room, where our children do their yoga classes, and where they have access to laptops to do their homework or relax.

We reluctantly had to dip into our reserves to carry out the work, but since Covid our income from fundraising and donations has dropped.

We are grateful to all those people who made a donation towards the roof, and we would be incredibly grateful for any fundraising you may be able to do or for new, always need, sponsors for the children in our care.

Raising money also helps to spread the word about the work we are doing to raise children who come into our care from situations of extreme poverty, tragedy, neglect or despair, in a happy, loving family home, with education and opportunity.
