Three of our boys, almost as old as Happy House, are turning 16 this year.
Today, indeed, is Harry’s birthday.
The boys are a band of brothers; they may not be related or have any known family, but they are totally united by love for each other and by the love and family they have at Happy House.
We are family to every child who comes into our care—whether it is for a few weeks, months, or years.
Harry, Brian, and David, who all took the Hayward surname when the courts entrusted them into the care of the Happy House and our late founder, Sue Hayward, and her husband, Dave, became their legal guardians.
The first to arrive was Brian in June 2010, followed by Harry in August that year and David, born in December, who joined us in the new year when he was well enough to leave the hospital.
They are remarkable young men, and watching them grow into confident, determined teenagers has been a privilege, and we couldn’t be prouder of the young people they are becoming.
Harry has big dreams for his future.
He wants to become an IT technician and is passionate about technology. Harry is focused on his studies and works hard every day to achieve his goals. We have every confidence that with his determination and dedication, he will make his dream a reality.
Brian, who recently turned 16, has set his sights on becoming a criminologist.
He is determined, driven, and committed to making sure he succeeds.
He’s always loved the challenges of education and was the furthest of our children to know all his times tables.
Brian’s ambition and intention to achieve inspires those around him, and we look forward to seeing where his journey takes him.
David, who will turn 16 later this year, is currently in Grade 7 and continues to give his best in everything he does.
He has faced some difficulties from the start, but, with our devotion and commitment, he overcame his physical issues and has defied many odds. He still struggles with his speech but never, ever, gives up. What singles him out is his perseverance.
We are delighted to see the progress he is making every day. His hard work and determination remind us that every step forward is worth celebrating.
These three boys are a wonderful example of resilience, hope, and ambition.
Having watched them grow from babies into young men with dreams and aspirations, we are excited to continue supporting them as they build bright futures for themselves.
Our special thanks must go to those wonderful people who have or do sponsor these three boys; they have done so much to ensure that these young men have grown up in a family where they have been given love, education, and aspiration.
Where they have always been encouraged to believe that they can achieve.
With the support of all our friends and sponsors, Happy House has always, and will always, put hope in the hearts of children.
